What is Populr?

Populr is a simple new way to create and publish a single web page- we call these pages "pops". Pops are great for sending beautiful, interactive messages like newsletters, event invitations, marketing messages and lots more.

We are the brains, brauns and beauty that make up Populr.me. We're creative, fun and energetic but most importantly, we are hard workers. Check out who we are and then see more of what we do!

What brought you to Nashville?

I grew up in Nashville & then went to Tulane in New Orleans, LA for a dual degree in finance & information systems. After that, I joined Reliant energy in Houston, TX as a financial analyst pre & post Enron (exciting times!).  Fed up with corporate life, I returned to Nashville & started CentreSource Inc. and built it into one of the leading Interactive Agencies in the country.

I developed the vision for Populr years ago while bidding on large marketing campaigns - I wanted something that helped me gain attention to win deals.  After years of trying to build the platform in our 'spare time', I finally got serious in 2011 and pitched Populr to Bullpen Ventures. They invested & we spent all of 2012 building the dream to launch in 2013!

What brought you to Nashville?

I am a born and bred Nashville native. Well, slightly north of Nashville in a town you've never heard of, so let's just say Nashville, ok? I went to school here, got married here, and had a wonderful daughter here. I studied animation in college, I but was quickly attracted to the interactive realm when making my first real website for an art class.

I worked at Centresource for over four years as an interactive designer. During my tenure, I was involved in more than one of Nick's attempts to build this platform in our spare time. We have  been hammering away non-stop since our successful pitch to Bullpen.

I got engaged, then married to a woman living here.

I started working for Centresource on a contract-to-hire basis in May of 2011. The weekend after my first contract week, Centresource held a volunteer weekend to start work on a side-project called Populr. I showed up for that weekend and for the rest of the days set aside for that attempt at developing the project. After a while, it became clear that Populr was not going to make it on volunteer hours as a side-project, so Nick started exploring striking out with a dedicated team, and he asked if I'd be interested. For me it was the return of a dream I'd set aside upon deciding to join Centresource, so I was thrilled by the invitation.

I came to Nashville in 2006 to attend Vanderbilt, left briefly to complete a masters at Carnegie Mellon and came back because I couldn't stand the cold.

Near the end of my studies I had become heavily involved at the Entrepreneur Center while working with JSF and StartupTN. This is where I learned about the vision of Populr, loved it, and decided to join the team.

Ben and I were working near Nick in the Entrepreneur Center—it was fun but noisy experience :). I loved what Populr was doing, so when Nick asked me to join this rock star team I had to take the offer.

What brought you to Nashville?

I moved to Nashville in 1994 to attend Vanderbilt. Before graduating in 1998, I got sucked into the tech startup scene and lived the dot com + dot bomb dream. I returned to Pittsburgh in 2002 for graduate school at CMU. After a few years, I realized Nashville was my real home and migrated south again in 2008.

What brought you to Nashville?

I am a Nashville native. After graduating in 2004 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, I was eager to relocate with my Architecture degree. 5 years later, with a shrinking building industry, I moved home in 2010, as a Freelance Designer/Architect & Junior Web Developer.

I participated in a flagship web development program offered by Nashville Software School. It was through NSS that I was able to connect with Populr and have the opportunity to join this amazing team.

What brought you to Nashville?

A husband, two kids, a dog, and a cat. They were all coming and I thought I'd tag along. We came here from  Atlanta in 1991 so I'm almost a native. My education comes from Darton College and Georgia State U and, professionally, I have a checkered past. I've been an accountant, a makeup artist, a regional sales manager, a sales rep, and owned two businesses; a wedding planning company and a spa.

I met Nick when I worked at the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and Nick was with Centresource. I was a Nick Holland groupie from day 1 because he has vision and is a dynamic, creative entrepreneur. I've always wanted to work in the tech world and when Nick started Populr, I put out the word I wanted to be one of the Populr kids. Look what happened...

What brought you to Nashville?

I was one of those starry-eyed kids that wanted to work on the business side of the Country Music so I came to Nashville for a Belmont education and a my big internship break.

I was blessed to have a long run in the corporate Music Business world, but then it came time for a change.   The energy of the Nashville start-up scene and my love of digital had me looking for an opportunity that would allow me to marry the two with my music business experience.   A mutual acquaintance who is a fan of Populr.me introduced Nick and I.  After Nick’s passionate demo and the “homework” assignment, I knew I had to jump on the opportunity to become a POPSTAR!
